EUSD UPDATES

EUSD UPDATES

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Staff,

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I am writing to inform you about some changes in leadership within our school district. After much deliberation, we have made the decision to implement several principal changes beginning in the Fall of 2024.

These vacancies have occurred due to a retirement and two resignations; therefore, requiring us to consider many factors in meeting the needs of all schools and the district at large.  These changes have been made with deep consideration of each individual's skills, experience, leadership qualities, and their interest in accepting a new role within the district.

I want to express my gratitude to our current principals who have dedicated their time, energy, and expertise to ensure the success and well-being of our students and staff. They are truly remarkable in what they do.

With that said, I am pleased to announce the following principal assignments for the upcoming school year:

Christie Kay, currently serving as the Principal at La Costa Heights, will be transitioning to the role of Principal at Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary.

Chris Juarez, currently serving as the Principal at Flora Vista, will be assuming the position of Principal at Capri Elementary.

Additionally this week, we welcomed Mariel Laughlin as Interim Principal at Ocean Knoll Elementary. We are confident that these principals will bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and dedication to their new roles, further enhancing the great programs already in place at these schools.

We are currently in the process of an extensive recruitment to fill the principal vacancies within the district (Flora Vista, La Costa Heights and Ocean Knoll) for next year.

I understand that transitions can sometimes be challenging, but I want to reassure you that we are committed to ensuring a smooth and seamless process. Our district leadership team will work closely with both outgoing and incoming principals to facilitate a successful transition period.

Please join me in congratulating and offering our full support to these individuals as they embark on their new leadership journeys within our school district.

Warmly,

Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
Superintendent

EUSD BRIGHT SPOTS!
EUSD values Joy, Belonging, Integrity, Service and Innovation

Each spring, La Costa Heights warmly welcomes new families with tours led by our student tour guide leaders, accompanied by Principal Christie Kay. These engaging tours celebrate our vibrant student community, offering an immersive glimpse into life at La Costa Heights. During these tours, students share specifics about the school and insights into what the experience is like as students. Families are escorted around campus, including visiting kindergarten classrooms. The leadership position of student tour guide is a coveted leadership role because students love being able to represent La Costa Heights and share about their school with new families. Through the preparation and presentation of these tours, our student leaders exhibit stellar achievement as skilled communicators and confident collaborators. They are flexible and responsive to whatever questions or requests come from families coming to the tours. The authenticity this provides is a fabulous way for our student leaders to shine while also demonstrating to new families how student leadership is central to the student experience at La Costa Heights.
