EUSD UPDATES

Dear EUSD Families and Staff,

I hope you all enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating summer! As we begin a new academic year, I am filled with a sense of excitement and anticipation for the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead. It is with great pleasure that I welcome our new families and welcome back those returning to another wonderful year in our district.

As I begin my sixth year as Superintendent here, I am so proud of the tremendous work we have done as a district community to prepare our students for middle school and beyond. We are launching this year with our newly created EUSD Strategic Plan as our North Star! This plan will direct our work as we continue to innovate and adjust to improve student outcomes.  You will see evidence of this work throughout the year as we pilot new report cards, increase opportunities for personalization through goal setting and increasing student voice. This plan will improve and enhance the learning and the school climate for all of our learners and we are excited to see what the future holds.

Communication and community engagement are high priorities for me. To this end, you can expect a district update from me every other Friday. These updates include relevant district information, site highlights, upcoming events and links to important topics such as district calendars and board meeting agendas. Additionally, please follow us on Instagram where we regularly share stories of the great work happening for children in EUSD!

I thoroughly enjoy getting to know our students and families. I visit schools almost daily and I hope that when you see me you will introduce yourselves or say hello. I am always eager to hear about your experience or listen to feedback.

As we prepare to welcome students back to our schools, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our expert staff, supportive families, dedicated School Board and engaged community members. Your unwavering commitment to our students and our district is what makes our community so special. Together, we will create a memorable year for our children!

The community of EUSD is like no other! Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.

Warmly,

Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
Superintendent

EUSD Values: Joy, Belonging, Integrity, Service and Innovation

The Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) program hosted their 24th annual Summer Olympics event in July. ESY includes children with a range of abilities and each activity is designed to accommodate all levels of needs. The program consists of 8 classrooms serving approximately 65 students from all 9 schools within the district.

If there was ever a day to be described as joyful, this was it! Their theme this year was “We Love the USA,” which students used as inspiration for art projects before the event. The day began with a parade of athletes, during which they proudly showcased classroom banners they had crafted. Students then participated in a variety of activities including beanbag shot put, soccer dribbling, parachute games, obstacle courses, hula hooping, medal crafting, and olympic vocabulary games. To close out the event, students were celebrated with a medal ceremony.

The ESY Olympics program was the vision of Lori Miller, an Adaptive Physical Education teacher who passed away from cancer. The Special Education Department has continued this legacy event in her honor.

2024-2025 BIKE SAFETY PROGRAM

All students who wish to ride their bicycles to school will need to complete an approved bike safety course and permit application for the 2024-2025 school year.

SAFETY COURSES:

Students must complete an approved safety course in order to receive their bike permit. EUSD is partnering up with the San Diego Bike Coalition again this year. They will be providing general bicycle general safety assemblies at all of the nine school sites. Just like last year, all students will be required to attend these assemblies regardless of applying for a permit or not. This straight forward information is relevant to everyone and is something that will help keep our students safe at or away from school. These assemblies will be scheduled as early as possible so that everyone will have received their training and had permits issued by Fall Break. We will be offering two make up assemblies at later dates for any students who are absent for their site’s assembly. Additional safety trainings such as classes put on by the Carlsbad Police Department, City of Encinitas, or the City of Carlsbad will also be acceptable.

PERMITS:

Students will again be required to fill out the permit application with their parent/guardian even if they did so last year. These permits are available on the EUSD website under the bike/e-bike safety page found HERE. Once students have completed the required safety course and have submitted their permit application, they will receive a new ID tag for their bike.

DATE TO BE COMPLETED BY:

Students have until October 28th, their first day back from fall break, to complete an approved bike safety course, submit a permit application, and have the tag attached to their bike. If students have not completed these necessary steps before that date, they will not be permitted to ride their bike to school until they have done so.
