EUSD UPDATES ~ June 6, 2025

Dear EUSD Community,

I want to wish you all a joyful, safe, and well-deserved summer break! Thank you for the care and support you’ve shown at our schools throughout the year. Your partnership has been essential in creating vibrant learning environments where joy, connection, and a strong sense of belonging thrive every day.

I’d also like to congratulate our sixth graders who will be promoting this upcoming week! I am incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and am confident that they are more than ready for the exciting journey ahead. To all of our returning students and families, I look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday, August 12, for the first day of the 2025–2026 school year. Until then, have a wonderful summer!

Warmly,

Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
Superintendent

CHARTER PETITION NOTICE & FAQ

As previously shared in EUSD Newsletters sent on May 16 and May 30, EUSD has received a charter petition from North Star Waldorf Academy Charter School. Charter schools can request a local education agency for authorization to operate a school within the jurisdictional boundaries of the authorizing agency. If authorization is granted by the District’s Board of Trustees, North Star Waldorf will operate as a separate legal entity, but the District will have oversight responsibilities for the charter school.

The District will review the petition for legal compliance as well as conduct a detailed analysis in all areas such as curriculum and education, business and finance, liability and risk management, as well as student rights and special education. The information gathered is to determine the soundness and workability of the proposed school. The results of the review will be posted publicly on August 4, 2025. The Board will take final action on August 19, 2025. You may access the charter petition at this link or on our district website.

CHARTER PETITION FAQ:

For more detailed information regarding the petition process and the role of the district if the petition is accepted by the Board, we have created a document outlining answers to frequently asked questions that can be viewed at this link.

PUBLIC HEARING:

The District’s Board of Trustees also must also consider input from the district teachers, other district employees and the community that would be impacted by the charter at a public hearing. The public hearing in EUSD is scheduled for our regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 6:00 pm.  Input can be provided in person or can be sent in writing to the Board of Trustees at board@eusd.net. Comments submitted via email will be provided to the Board but will not be read aloud at the public hearing. No decision will be made at the June 10th meeting.

For further information or questions, please contact Kristine.Beverly@eusd.net.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL REMINDER

As a reminder, the last day of school is Wednesday, June 11th. Students will be released on early dismissal at 12:45. Have a great summer and see you back on Tuesday, August 12th!

LEARNER PROFILE IN ACTION - 2025 English Proficiency Reclassification Ceremony

This week, EUSD proudly recognized 40 exceptional Emerging Bilingual students who have officially been reclassified as English proficient! Reclassification is a significant milestone that reflects years of dedication and hard work. Students must meet rigorous criteria set by the California Department of Education—including language proficiency testing, academic achievement, and input from families and educators.

In achieving bilingualism, they not only gained fluency in English, but preserved their first language while continuing to honor their cultural identity. Representing a range of grade levels, and more than 11 different home languages, these students have demonstrated remarkable perseverance as empowered learners, global citizens, and skilled communicators.

Congratulations to each and every student who reached this goal—you inspire us all! We also celebrate the families, teachers, and staff who supported them every step of the way.
