~EUSD Vision~
Ignite the Limitless Potential of All Learners.

EUSD UPDATES ~ OCTOBER 11, 2024
|
|
|
Dear EUSD Community,
As stated above, our vision in Encinitas Union School District is to ignite the limitless potential of all learners. Part of doing that well is ensuring we have a clear picture of the learning, strengths and needs of each student. Over the last two weeks, all of our teachers have been involved in Data-Based Consultative Intervention (DBCI) meetings. These meetings are designed for a team of educational experts to review the academic, social and emotional and behavior progress of all of our students.
Grade level teams along with various specialists such as Intervention teachers, TRAC (Teambuilding, Regulation, Awareness and Community) teachers, the school psychologist, the MTSS TOSAs (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Teacher on Special Assignment), the principal and others are able to review a variety of data points (state, local and anecdotal) to progress monitor each student’s learning according to grade level outcomes, expectations and individual goals. This is an important part of our multi-tiered system of support and the meetings are held four times per year to make just in time decisions to offer intervention support and/or to adjust instructional plans to accelerate and enhance learning. These coincide with opportunities to partner and communicate with families during conferences and/or report card distribution.
We know it is critical to have a coordinated, aligned system that uses data to support the growth of the whole child. We have worked diligently over the past several years to ensure our teachers have access to high quality common assessments, a user friendly data management system and release time to collaborate about students within the grade level. Having observed these meetings, I have been amazed at the ideas and support that comes from an entire team of experts sharing practices strategically focused on each student.
Thank you for your participation in conferences next week! Your partnership is truly important to us.
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed. D.
Superintendent

BRIGHT SPOT: LA COSTA HEIGHTS
|
At La Costa Heights, we are deeply committed to our district's core values of joy, belonging, service, innovation, and integrity. This year, our focus is centered on three of these values—joy, belonging, and service—as we believe they are essential to fostering a child’s academic success, emotional well-being, and overall development.
The recent school-wide community carnival was a powerful example of these values in action. The atmosphere of joy and belonging was truly palpable as our community came together to create a shared experience. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this event a success.
As a Leader in Me school, we emphasize leadership through service. We began the year with a student-led Synergy Gathering and the formation of student Lighthouse Teams, which are focused on service projects that benefit the entire school. For example, our kindergarteners created self-care packs for community members in need, while our Green Team is working hard to keep our campus clean and ready for learning. And this is just the beginning—our student-led activities team is planning a variety of school-wide events aimed at fostering joy and belonging, ensuring that every student feels included.
Looking ahead, we are excited for more upcoming activities and events, including additional student-led Synergy Gatherings, grade-level Parents’ Night Out socials, choir assemblies, and more. Each event is designed to strengthen our community's sense of joy, belonging, and service.
We are eager to continue this journey with our families, cultivating joy, belonging, and pride in service for every student. Together, we will build an inclusive community where each child feels celebrated, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.

VISITING EDUCATORS TOUR EUSD
|
|
|
Last week EUSD was honored to host more than 50 educators from 8 different districts across the United States. These educators were invited to see first-hand how EUSD puts its focus on student-centered learning, which they saw on full display while touring both Farm Lab and El Camino Creek. Visitors had the chance to see kindergarten students learn about the life-cycle of pumpkins at Farm Lab, watched student-created skits and presentations at ECC, and ask a panel of five students questions about their experience with the learner profile and more. We watched our guests experience the joy and innovation that takes place in EUSD classrooms every single day, and are proud of the work we do as a District to approach learning with each individual student in mind.

BIKE/E-BIKE SAFETY PROGRAM
|
|
|
Each school has now participated in a bike safety assembly presented by the San Diego Bike Coalition. Safety is our number one priority at EUSD, and the bike/e-bike safety program helps ensure that students have the knowledge and training they need to safely ride to school, or anywhere else!
If your child(ren) were present at their school's bike safety assembly, this counts as their approved safety course and you can now fill out their bike permit application. Students are required to fill out the permit application with their parent/guardian even if they did so last year. These permits are available on the EUSD website under the bike/e-bike safety page HERE. Once students have completed the required safety course and have submitted their permit application, they will receive a new ID tag for their bike. Please reach out to your child's school if you have any questions about this process.
We will be offering two make-up assemblies at later dates for any students who are absent for their site’s assembly. Parents will be notified of the make-up assembly dates as soon as they are scheduled. Additional safety training such as classes put on by the Carlsbad Police Department, City of Encinitas, or the City of Carlsbad will also be acceptable if your student was unable to attend their school safety assembly.
Students have until October 28th, their first day back from fall break, to complete an approved bike safety course, submit a permit application, and have the tag attached to their bike. If students have not completed these necessary steps before that date, they will not be permitted to ride their bike to school until they have done so.

It's pumpkin season, which means Kindergarten visits to Farm Lab have begun! Kinder students attend for a single day in early fall, where they get to explore the life cycle of a pumpkin from seed to compost. Students take an interactive farm tour, discover what a seed needs to grow, observe all phases of pumpkin growth, plant pumpkin seeds, and are introduced to waste diversion through vermicomposting. As an added bonus, each Kindergarten class gets to pick a pumpkin to take back for their classroom!
