Welcome Back!
I hope your summer was filled with time to relax, reconnect with loved ones, and make wonderful memories. As another school year begins, I always look forward to the excitement that returns to our campuses. There is something special about seeing classrooms come to life, welcoming new faces, and reconnecting with familiar ones. A new school year brings hope, possibility, and the opportunity for every child to grow.
To our new families, welcome to Encinitas Union School District! Whether your child is starting kindergarten or your family is new to our community, we are so glad you are here. I truly believe you have found a wonderful place for your children. To our returning families, welcome back. We missed you and are excited to continue this journey together.
This year, I have been reflecting on what makes this district so special. It is certainly our outstanding schools and dedicated staff, but more than anything, it is the people and the sense of community we have built together.
One of the greatest compliments we receive is when former students return to teach in our schools or when parents proudly enroll their own children in the district they once attended. That says something remarkable about the legacy of EUSD. It speaks to the relationships that are built here, the care our staff shows every day, and the lasting impact our schools have on generations of families.
With our Strategic Plan guiding our work, we remain committed to providing engaging learning experiences where every child is supported academically, socially, and emotionally. Some important highlights for this year include:
- A districtwide math textbook adoption pilot featuring two new programs with an emphasis on paper and pencil.
- Purposeful and balanced iPad use including district-wide expectations for reduced screen time, no iPads sent home, no digital homework, increased filtering and more digital citizenship lessons throughout the year. Teachers will share more information about how they will use iPads within their classrooms during Back to School Night.
- Continued emphasis on interdisciplinary units of learning and engaging learning experiences.
- Additionally, this year we have continued to work on lowering class size averages and we have reduced the number of combination classrooms.
We want to partner with you! An important part of this partnership is ongoing communication and collaboration between home and school. Throughout the year, we encourage you to stay connected through the following district communication channels:
Email: The District and your child's school will regularly send emails with important updates, announcements, and reminders. District emails, including districtwide updates and our biweekly newsletter, will come from EUSDCommunications@eusd.net. Emails from your principal and school will come from their specific addresses. Please note that opting out of emails from any EUSD addresses will prevent you from receiving important communications from your school and the District. Meaning that if you opt-out of District emails, you will also be opting out of receiving school-wide emails from your site or principal. We kindly ask that, if possible, you remain subscribed so you don't miss important information.
Text Messages and Phone Calls: Parents and staff may occasionally receive text messages or automated phone calls from their school or the District. These messages allow us to communicate quickly and efficiently, especially during emergencies. We encourage you to save the following phone numbers in your contacts. All district and school text messages will come from one of these two numbers and will begin with "EUSD:", regardless of which school your child attends. Please note that these are one-way communication numbers and cannot receive replies.
- Regular District and School Messages: 760-903-2335
- Emergency District and School Messages: 760-557-6031 (emergency messages will be delivered even if you have opted out of non-emergency texts)
Social Media: Follow us on Instagram and Facebook at @Encinitas_USD to celebrate student achievements, see classroom learning in action, and stay informed about district news and events.
Website: Visit eusd.net for district news, calendars, resources, and important information throughout the school year.
I look forward to seeing you on our campuses throughout the year. Please don't hesitate to introduce yourself, share your experiences, or reach out with questions or ideas. Getting to know our students and families is one of the greatest joys of my work.
Thank you for being part of the EUSD family. We look forward to an incredible year as we continue building on a legacy of excellence in education together.
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year!
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
