Dear EUSD Families,

Protecting student data and privacy is a top priority for all of us. Educational Testing Service (ETS), California’s statewide assessment contractor, has requested that California school districts distribute this correspondence (linked here) to families regarding a recent data breach of their system.

On September 25, ETS discovered that personal information about California students had been accessed and copied without authorization. According to the California Department of Education (CDE), the breach included information about all students enrolled during the previous three school years and may extend to additional students.

We want to reassure our families that this incident occurred within an ETS system, not a Encinitas Union School District (EUSD) system. We have been informed that ETS is responsible for notifying students and families whose information may have been involved.

The information accessed varies by student but may have included names, birth dates, home addresses, student identification numbers, demographic and disability-related information, and statewide assessment results. The data did not include Social Security numbers, driver's license or passport numbers, financial account or credit/debit card information, account passwords, or personal information about parents or guardians.

ETS is offering affected current and former students 24 months of complimentary identity-protection services through Experian IdentityWorks. Eligible individuals have until March 19, 2027, to enroll. Additional information, including eligibility and enrollment instructions, is available in the official Notice of Data Breach. For assistance, individuals may contact Experian at 833-931-8488.

Thank you,

Encinitas Union School District
