Dear EUSD Families and Staff,
I want to personally thank all of you for making this year such a special one for our students. I am in awe of all that has been accomplished. As we prepare for our 6th graders to walk across the stage next week, their successes are to be celebrated by all of us. As a district community, we have prioritized supporting children in EUSD in so many ways. Our collective efforts have been realized as these 6th graders are leaving our district with high academic skills that have prepared them for middle school as empowered learners. As global citizens, they take with them incredible interpersonal and problem-solving skills from having been a part of our TRAC program for most of their school careers. They take with them memories of the many community events that connected them and their families to school because of the efforts of our volunteers, PTA, and EEF. They also take with them tremendous examples of adaptability and flexibility as they were just second graders when the pandemic hit and they became instant innovative thinkers. Most of all, I am confident they take with them a feeling that they were loved by our EUSD team! Congratulations to our Class of 2024!
As we look to the 2024/2025 school year, we are excited to welcome 3 new principals to EUSD! After an extensive hiring process, we are thrilled to make the following announcements:
Mariel Laughlin has been selected as the permanent Principal of Ocean Knoll Elementary. She has most recently been the Interim Principal there, but has also been a Teacher, a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) and an International Baccalaureate Coordinator in EUSD.
Heidi Galassi has been selected as the Principal of La Costa Heights Elementary. Dr. Galassi comes to Encinitas USD from Northern California with a wealth of educational experience! She has been a teacher, an Instructional Coach, and a principal at both the elementary and middle school levels.
Arlene Oyagi has been selected as the Principal of Flora Vista Elementary. She has been a teacher leader in EUSD for the last 24 years. She has had a wide variety of leadership and professional development opportunities in EUSD which have prepared her well for this position.
We know these three individuals will continue to build on the great work that has already been established at these three schools. We are happy to welcome them into their new positions.
As we look toward next Wednesday, I hope you all have a safe and joyful summer break.
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
Superintendent
