EUSD UPDATES ~ April 18, 2025

Dear EUSD Community,

Next Tuesday is Earth Day! Each year, our dedicated teachers and staff explore meaningful ways to celebrate this important day and week across the district. Our site and district Green Teams also play a vital role, organizing events and sharing valuable resources to promote sustainability. While Earth Day highlights the importance of environmental stewardship, our commitment to caring for the planet is a year-round priority at EUSD.

We strive to promote sustainable practices in all aspects of our school system- from district goals, to our facilities, to our education programming and community outreach.  We could not do this incredible work without our District Green Team and partnership with BCK Programs.

Warmly,

BRIGHT SPOT: MISSION ESTANCIA

At La Costa Heights, we are proud to uphold our district’s core values—especially joy, belonging, and service—which we believe are essential to every child’s academic success, emotional well-being, and overall development.

We intentionally nurture these values by developing the whole child through our student profile competencies: being an empowered learner, global citizen, wellness advocate, confident collaborator, skilled communicator, and innovative thinker. These qualities are not just ideals—they come to life every day in our classrooms, on the playground, and through school-wide experiences.

As a Leader in Me school, our students take initiative and ownership of their learning. One shining example of this is the way our students led school tours for prospective families this year. Our student guides confidently welcomed visitors, explained school routines, and proudly showcased our campus—highlighting the learning spaces, creative projects, and inclusive culture that make LCH special. In doing so, they demonstrated skilled communication, confident collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging. Many parents commented on how impressed they were by the students' poise, kindness, and genuine enthusiasm—proof that our students are becoming not only strong learners, but thoughtful global citizens and wellness advocates who care about making others feel welcome and connected.

We also continue to give students opportunities to lead beyond the classroom. One powerful example is when our 5th graders traveled to Sacramento to present a student-created bill advocating for inclusive playgrounds across California. They acted as innovative thinkers—using research and problem-solving to draft their proposal—and as empowered learners and skilled communicators as they presented and answered questions from state leaders. Their poise and advocacy reflected our deep belief that students can lead with purpose and create real change.

We are so grateful for our strong partnership with you, our families. Together, we will continue building an inclusive, joyful, and student-centered community—where every child is celebrated, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
