~EUSD Vision~
Ignite the Limitless Potential of All Learners.

Learners. Leaders. Legacy.
Our theme this year, Learners. Leaders. Legacy., is about what we want for every child in EUSD. These first weeks have already provided so many examples of it in action.
Our students are learners, but so are the adults who surround them. This month, many of our teachers met for training on our new mathematics materials as part of our math adoption process. They engaged in learning together and thinking deeply about how we can continue to strengthen math instruction. Immediately, each day since the training I have been able to see high quality math lessons first hand as teachers utilize the new resource.
Across our classrooms, teachers are building communities where students are encouraged to ask questions, tackle challenging work, share their thinking, and learn from one another. These experiences directly strengthen academics. Children become stronger readers, writers, mathematicians, and problem solvers when they are willing to take on challenges, persist when something is difficult, explain their thinking, learn from mistakes, and take ownership of their learning. Our Learner Profile reinforces these skills by helping students understand what it means to be thoughtful thinkers, communicators, collaborators, and empowered learners. We want our students to master essential academic skills and also know how to use those skills to think deeply and solve problems.
Our students are becoming leaders. Leadership at this age can be as simple as having the confidence to share an idea, including someone who feels left out, working through a disagreement, or persevering when an answer does not come easily. It can also be participation in activities, clubs and Student Council. These small moments build skills that serve children both academically and personally.
And then there is legacy. I mentioned in my August 14th update how amazing it is that so many of our employees went to school at EUSD. Since then, we have found that more than 50 of our current staff members are former EUSD students. They grew up in these classrooms and now have chosen to come back and create those same meaningful experiences for another generation of children. To me, there is no better example of the lasting impact a great school experience can have. Finally, legacy is also how our students grow beyond our schools and make a difference in the world in whatever occupation they choose.
That is what Learners. Leaders. Legacy. is all about. Providing an exceptional academic experience today while helping our children develop the confidence, curiosity, and skills they will carry with them long after they leave our schools.
Thank you for your partnership and, most importantly, for trusting us with your children. It is a responsibility and privilege we never take for granted.
Andrée Grey, Ed.D. Superintendent

Bright Spot: Mission Estancia
|
Last year, the Mission Estancia staff began building a schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. Together, we developed our PAWS expectations: Practice kindness and empathy, Act responsibly, Work together, and Stay safe. We explicitly taught and modeled these expectations so students understood what PAWS looks and sounds like throughout our campus. This work also supports our EUSD Learner Profile by helping students become Confident Collaborators who show empathy, take responsibility for their actions, and contribute positively to their school community.
This year, our PAWSitive Role Model program has quickly become a bright spot on campus! Staff members pass out “PAWSitive Role Model Slips” when they catch students demonstrating our PAWS expectations, and students have been so excited to bring their slips to the office and add them to the raffle jar. By the end of each week, the jar is packed with examples of Wildcats making positive choices. During our Monday raffle, winners choose from leadership-focused rewards such as serving as line leader, selecting their classroom seat, participating in morning announcements, or receiving a front-of-the-line cafeteria pass. The enthusiasm surrounding the program has been wonderful to see, and we love celebrating the many ways our Wildcats make Mission Estancia a kind, responsible, collaborative, and safe place to learn!

Bus Safety Starts With You
|
More buses are on Encinitas roads this year as students from Paul Ecke Central are being transported to ECC and PDL. Follow the law and do you part to keep our students safe.
Know the Law: - Yellow Lights: SLOW DOWN. The bus is preparing to stop. Be ready to stop. - Red Lights + Stop Arm: STOP. When the bus has flashing red lights and the stop arm extended, all drivers in both directions must stop and remain stopped until the red lights stop flashing and the stop arm is withdrawn. - Students Are Crossing: STAY ALERT. Never pass a stopped school bus with flashing lights. Children may be crossing in front of the bus or across the roadway.
Cars on all roadways driving in both directions MUST STOP for a school bus with red flashing lights. The only exception is when there is a physical divider between lanes.
Keep looking, even after the bus moves. Children may still be nearby or crossing the road even after the red lights stop flashing and the bus begins to move.
Violations have serious consequences. Failure to stop for a school bus can result in a fine of up to $1,000 and a driver’s license suspension of up to one year.
Report infractions to law enforcement. If you see a vehicle passing a stopped bus with its red lights activated, safely document information (license plate #, vehicle description, location, direction of travel, date, and time). A photo is helpful. Report this directly to law enforcement. (Do not approach or distract the bus driver).

Students who ride a bike, e-bike, or scooter to school must obtain a 2026–2027 EUSD permit tag no later than November 2, 2026. To receive a tag, students must: 1. Attend an approved Bike/e-Bike Safety Presentation. 2. Complete the annual permit application for their school. 3. Pick up the tag from the school office and attach to their bike or scooter.
EUSD has partnered with the San Diego Bike Coalition to provide training assemblies at all school sites within the first three months of the school year. This training counts as the required attendance of an EUSD approved bike safety presentation. All students who are at school on the day of the assembly will attend the training regardless of if they ride a bike to school or not.
Students who miss school on the day of the bike safety training assembly at their site, students who enroll in our district after the start of the school year, or students who decide they want to ride a bike/scooter later on in the year must complete an approved course through the cities of Carlsbad or Encinitas
All parents received an email from EUSD Communications on Friday, August 21, outlining the bike permit process in detail. You can view that communication here. We also invite you to visit the EUSD Bike/e-Bike Safety webpage for for additional information.
*Please note that students who attend any of the four EUSD schools within Carlsbad City limits (El Camino Creek, La Costa Heights, Mission Estancia, and Olivenhain Pioneer) are not permitted to ride an e-bike to school if they are under 12 years old, per city laws.
